New Yorkers Pay Homage to Dr. Fauci With Dinner and Dessert

New Yorkers all over the state are honoring the country’s top infectious disease expert: with food.

On Long Island, Peter’s Clam Bar in Island Park is now offering the “Fauci” on their menu.

The dish, which is linguini with white clam sauce, is served to honor Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease.

The restaurant says the sauce was invented in the Fauci family’s native Sciacca, Italy.

Peter’s Clam Bar is also donating clam chowder to hospital workers on the front lines.

Meanwhile, in Rochester, Donuts Delite is putting Fauci’s image on doughnuts.

America’s top infectious disease expert’s face is being printed out on edible paper and placed on top of a layer of buttercream frosting which is decorated with red, white and blue sprinkles.

"We wanted to start a conversation and we wanted to give notoriety to Dr. Fauci who we saw on the news that was providing us all this information every day at a time when we didn't know what was going on. We're on the front lines of food over here, we can't see what's going on in the world. So he is the cool, calm, collected information that we needed," owner Nick Semeraro tells WCBS 880's Steve Scott.

The response has been overwhelming.

"We've been getting calls from all over the country just thanking us, flooding the phone lines with great stories about him. I never met a man that I heard so much positive about and how many lives he's saved and the impact that he's had," Semeraro said.

The doughnut was such a hit, the donut shop is now working to ship orders across the country. For more information, visit their website.

Over the weekend, the shop sold thousands at more than $2 a piece or $20 for a dozen.

Dr. Fauci is part of President Donald Trump’s coronavirus task force.
