A paddleboarder in Southern California thought he could self-isolate on the ocean and wound up in handcuffs.

With the state under a stay-at-home order, Malibu lifeguards flagged down deputies after the rogue water sports enthusiast defied their orders to get out of the water.

The unidentified man remained in the water for another 30-40 minutes until a sheriff’s boat arrived on the scene, the Lost Hills Sheriff Station wrote in a Facebook post.

The paddleboarder was arrested for disobeying a lifeguard and violating the stay-at-home order, both are misdemeanors.

He was booked and released with a notice to appear in court. The man now faces up to six months in jail and a $1000 fine.

The paddleboarder wasn’t the only won hanging out in the Pacific Ocean, but the others complied with lifeguards and avoided any legal ramifications, reported TMZ.

Last month, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti closed all beaches after people failed to comply with social distancing mandates.

Some experts have warned that swimming in the ocean can pose a risk amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“Surfers are saying that they’re safe if they stay 6 feet away from other people, but that’s only true if the air isn’t moving,” atmospheric scientist Kim Prather Prather told The San Diego Union-Tribune. “Most of the time, there’s wind or a breeze at the coast. Tiny drops of virus can float in the air and get blown around.”

She also reiterated the importance of social distancing and how it isn’t just about keeping yourself safe.

"If you don't care about your own life, that's one thing.  But this can be a matter of life or death to other people,” she added.  “I’m really worried because the coronavirus is so contagious.”

Anyone looking to get their marine kicks this weekend should just tune it to Discovery's Channel's "Shark Week" 48-hour mini-marathon. This is the best way to safe while enjoying the deep seas.
