NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- New Rochelle High School is hiring a forensic investigator to probe possible grade inflation.

The Journal News is shining a light on grade irregularities with New Rochelle High School's online credit recovery courses.

The classes like art and music appreciation from a company called Apex are intended for students who previously failed.

The Journal News found in 2016, three students received stellar grades for incomplete assignments and answers that, in some cases, didn't make sense.

One student submitted a sketch of a stick figure for a final art project.

The Journal News found the students rushed to finish their assignments at the end of the year.

The work was shoddy but in some cases the grades were impeccable. This raises questions about whether there was an attempt to boost the graduation rate.

The superintendent has launched an inquiry to determine who registered the grades. An outside forensic investigator will follow the digital trail.
