Retired LI Lt. Accused Of Hitting Nassau Sergeant With Car

February 22, 2019 - 1:09 pm

WESTBURY, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — A retired Suffolk County Police lieutenant is accused of intentionally driving into a Nassau County Police sergeant who was trying to give him a traffic ticket last week, authorities say.

Court documents revealed the plainclothes sergeant witnessed 52-year-old William Hasper unsafely attempt to enter a bank parking lot last Friday. He then proceeded to issue a ticket for the turn and excessive horn use.

After the sergeant told Hasper he was going to call for an officer to issue the traffic tickets, Hasper reportedly backed his car into the sergeant, and then, when the sergeant moved to the front of the vehicle, hit him again with the car.

The sergeant suffered an injury to his right leg.

The Nassau County Police Department had no comment.

Hasper fled the scene but later turned himself into authorities.

His attorney told News 12 that Hasper committed no crime and that Hasper would not and did not injure the sergeant.
