NEW YORK (WCBS 880) —The Dean of Rider University’s business college is resigning over the school’s refusal to allow a Chick-Fil-A on campus.

Cynthia Newman says she will remain at Rider as a professor but is stepping down as dean, citing her beliefs as a Christian.

"I am a committed follower of Jesus Christ,” Newman said in her announcement, “As such, I endeavor every day to do exactly what Chick-fil-A puts forward as its overarching corporate value: to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to me and to have a positive influence on all who come into contact with me.”

Rider University said it will not allow the chain to open on campus because of perceptions about its corporate values.

Those values have been under fire for years, after the chain’s president spoke out against gay marriage.
