NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – The stabbing attack at a Hanukkah party in Rockland County and the shooting at a church near Fort Worth, Texas, over the weekend have Sen. Chuck Schumer proposing an increasing in funding for security at houses of worship.

The funding would go to things like security cameras, heavier doors, fencing and trained guards.

“What should really alarm every American across the country is that what happened in Rockland County and what happened in Texas the following night is part of a cascade of violence and intolerance in America,” Schumer said. “And it’s risen to a boiling point. So we need much stronger federal action.”

Schumer calls the attacks on churches and synagogues a “national crisis.”
