NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – An off-duty Secret Service agent shot and killed a dog as the animal was being walked by her owners in Brooklyn on Monday night, police said.

The agent was turning the corner at East 8th Street and Caton Place in Windsor Terrace around 10 p.m. when he encountered the Belgian Shepherd. He told police the dog charged at him while barking.

The agent fired one round at the dog, killing her, police said.

Video and photos show the dog under a white sheet on a bloody sidewalk.

The owners, said to be a man and woman, told the Daily News that the dog was on a leash at the time, and photos show a leash beside the body of the dog.

In a statement, the Secret Service told the Daily Beast: “An off duty Secret Service employee was involved in the shooting of an unleashed dog in Brooklyn, NY this evening. As this is an ongoing NYPD investigation, the Secret Service will not have further comment.”
