Several Hospitalized After Car Crashes Into Long Island Home

PLAINVIEW, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — Rainy weather might be to blame behind a series of crashes that landed several people in the hospital on Long Island.

The incident happened at around 9:45 a.m. Friday on Country Drive in Plainview.

Homeowner Harry Johal tells WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall that he was upstairs when the car careened off the road and into his home.

“I heard this loud thud and came down, my brother was actually lying in the hallway because we were doing some tiling work and he was moving boxes. It just so happens that he came down and the car just went right through the house,” he said.

His brother was working on a playroom for his two children, aged 1 and 3, when he was hit by debris as a black Hyundai slammed into the house.

“It just sounded like a loud explosion,” Johal said.

His brother, who was not identified, and the driver of the Hyundai were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for injuries. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Authorities believe the driver was looking to avoid a truck, with LF Distributor in the Bronx, which had hit a nearby pole. It's believed the rainy weather caused both drivers to lose control of the vehicles.

The truck driver and his passenger were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

When asked if he planned to keep the room where the accident occurred as a play area, Johal responded, “No, no, no, no, no never.”
