EDISON, N.J. (WCBS 880) — The holiday season is coming to a close, but the stores are as crowded as ever with people making returns.

Though, as WCBS 880’s Kelly Waldron reported, now might be the time to get the best deals.

While some folks were heading into the mall with bags and boxes in hand, planning to brave the crowds to make their returns, for others, Waldron found a rare few on the prowl for sales.

In fact, one shopper told WCBS 880 that shopping on the day after Christmas is a tradition he takes part in every year with his mom and sister.

“After Christmas we go and shop because the deals are phenomenal and we share with one another. What's the difference: 25th or the 26th?”

Martin, who was taking a break from shopping, told Waldron that it wasn’t his idea to head to the mall.

“I don't usually come out the day after Christmas, but just that my daughter wants to go shopping now,” he explained.

He joked, saying his daughter got money for Christmas and didn't want to wait to spend it.

“Went down to Macy’s, they had some wonderful shoes on sale for men. I was checking out some of the sale items at Nordstrom’s and I went down to one of the card places to get Christmas cards and all for next year,” another shopper explained.

His tips for handling the crowds post-Christmas?

“Just shop, wisely. Look. And if you can pay in cash, pay in cash.”
