Signal Trouble Disrupts LIRR Service For Evening Commute

December 18, 2018 - 4:29 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Long Island Rail Road riders had a rough commute Tuesday night.

The railroad canceled 19 trains for the evening rush because of signal issues in the West Side Yard near Penn Station.

The problems were fixed at around 6:30 p.m., but the LIRR warned customers to continue to anticipate delays.

All previously canceled trains also remained canceled.

Earlier, the railroad warned there could be additional cancelations beyond the evening rush.

The New York City Transit was cross-honoring tickets at Penn Station, Forest Hills, Kew Gardens and Jamaica until 7 p.m.

The evening commute only further highlighted the issues in New York City’s aging transportation infrastructure.
