After 50-Year Search, Adopted Long Island Man Finds Family He Never Knew He Had

PLAINVIEW, N.Y. (WCBS 880) -- When he was just 26 years old, Stanley Borushik was going through his late mother's paperwork and got the shock of his life -- he learned he was adopted.

Although he had a nice childhood, the now 76-year-old Plainview man said he wanted to find out more about his biological mother and father.

He spent the next 50 years searching, but no matter what he did, including hiring private investigators, the search came up empty. He had all but given up on finding his biological family when a DNA test for revealed he has a brother and a sister living in Pennsylvania.

The three met in July and they look like triplets.

"I broke down, I looked at them, they looked at me, the connection was instant," Borushik said "There is a family resemblance, you can't take that away."

His sister Mary and brother Sam say they felt the love immediately.

"My first reaction was how much he looked like my mother," Mary said. "It's been pretty amazing."

"He shows up and immediately you could see the likeness, he looks like family," Sam said. "We just found such a beautiful friendship from this."

Borushik says he believes he was given up for adoption in 1942 because his mother was not married.

Borushik, who is married and has two sons of his own, says he is very close to finding his biological father's family.
