WILLIAMSPORT, Penn (WCBS 880) -- Staten Island Little Leaguers moved one more game closer to the U.S. National Championship in Pennsylvania Sunday.

The Mid-Island Little League won their opening game against Iowa on Thursday, 5-2. They went on to topple the Post Oak Little League from Houston, Texas on Sunday, 2-1.

The wins places the Mid-Atlantic Regional champs in a winner’s bracket game set for Wednesday in Williamsport, Penn., and a chance to play for the championship.

“I think it’s a great story, you know, a bunch of kids getting together, making Staten Island look good,” said Frank Degrado, who watched the game with a group of friends at the Kettle Black Bar and Restaurant in the West Brighton area of the borough.

The bar had dozens of televisions showing national coverage of the 12-year-old local heroes.

“They got the mojo,” said one viewer. “They’ve got the mojo this team! They’re going all the way!”
