Study: NYC Now Best Tech City On Earth

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Sayonara, San Francisco! New York is now the best place for technology on the planet, according to a new study.

The study by real estate brokerage firm Savills Plc says New York came out on top in an analysis of the 30 top global tech cities.

The city’s large pool of talent and sizable volume of venture capital helped it beat out San Francisco for the #1 spot.

“So much of it is talent,” Paul Tostevin, author of the report, told Bloomberg. “New York can keep generating its own talent and, I think more importantly, recruiting it from around the world.”

The study used a number of factors to come up with the top cities, including business environment; tech environment; city buzz/wellness; talent pool; real estate costs; and mobility.

San Francisco came in second place, followed by London.

According to Bloomberg, this is the first time New York has come in first place in the report’s three iterations. Austin and San Francisco were first and second, respectively, in both 2015 and 2017.

New York has clearly been attracting tech companies. Amazon announced late last year that it plans to move its new headquarters to Queens, and Google said it's going to build a $1 billion campus in Manhattan.
