NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – A suspect has been arrested in connection with the suspected road-rage attack that killed an off-duty firefighter on the Belt Parkway over the weekend.

Joseph Desmond, 29, was tracked down and arrested at a motel in South Amboy, New Jersey, overnight.

He was taken to the 62nd Precinct along with his girlfriend, but it’s not clear whether she is under arrest or facing any charges.

The NYPD released a surveillance image of the suspect’s car Monday following Sunday’s deadly incident in Brooklyn. They say the 2006 Infinity G35 was registered to Desmond.

Faizal Coto, 33, was found lying next to his 2008 Ford Mustang on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn around 5 a.m. Sunday, according to police.

Coto got into a minor fender-bender with Demond's vehicle as the two vehicles were merging onto the Belt Parkway, police say.

The accident appears to have sparked some sort of road-rage encounter, and Coto was reportedly beaten with a baseball bat.

Police say Coto had severe trauma to his face and head when he was found on the busy roadway.

He was pronounced dead at Coney Island Hospital.

The FDNY says Coto was with the department for three years and that he was assigned to a Coney Island engine company.

Coto was also an aspiring rapper who performed under the name FAIYA.

He recently posted on Facebook that he was getting back into his music.

His friends were shocked to hear about his untimely death and remembered him as a peaceful person.

“He was nice,” one friend said. “Cool, very cool.”
