NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Thousands of elephants will take to the skies of DUMBO next week.

The third annual “Dumbo Drop” charity event will feature thousands of souvenir elephants dropping from the rooftops of Washington Street in the popular Brooklyn neighborhood, which has recently become a hotspot for photographers looking to capture the perfect shot of the Manhattan Bridge.

Each elephant will have a parachute and whoever lands their elephant closest to a designated target can win a number of prizes.

The event happens on Sept. 27. It will be follow by a “Disco Drop,” which will feature illuminated toy elephants floating through the night sky.

The money raised from the event will go towards three local schools: Public STEAM Schools, PS307 Elementary School and the Dock Street Middle School.
