Total Number Of Jobs In NYC Exceeds 4.5M For The First Time

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The state Department of Labor announced earlier this month that the number of jobs in New York City exceeded 4.5 million for the first time ever.

In total, the city reached 4,500,800 jobs in September 2018.

As Crain’s Greg David told WCBS 880, New York has added 814,400 jobs since the recession ended in October 2009. That equates to a 22 percent increase.

As to what we were doing right, David explained that New York has become incredibly attractive to “the best talent in the country.”

David said the number of venture capital pouring into New York is also unprecedented. In fact, during the summer months, more than $8 billion was invested in New York to assist growing tech companies.

He explained that the economic growth was ironic as the growing job market is causing most of the major problems in the city, including rising rent prices and overcrowding on subways.

“Virtually every problem we have in New York is because the city is so prosperous,” David said.
