Toxic Dog Food Recall Expanded To Include 8 Brands

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – The FDA is warning pet owners about an expanded recall that now covers eight brands of dog food.

The FDA says it has already gotten reports of dogs eating the potentially deadly food.

The recalled dog food may contain high levels of vitamin D, which can prove toxic to canines who eat it, according to the FDA.

Symptoms of excess vitamin D include loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling and weight loss. Toxic levels of the vitamin can cause kidney failure and even death.

The affected brands are: Nutrisca; Natural Life Pet Products; Sunshine Mills, Inc.; ANF, Inc.; Lidl; Kroger; and Ahold Delhaize.

The recalled products were sold nationwide.

The FDA says that the recall is a developing situation, and there’s a chance more dog foods could be added to the growing list.

Manufacturers have urged consumers to dispose of or return any dog food they have that falls under the recall.

Dog owners should also contact their veterinarians if their canines ate the food.
