October 30, 2018 - 3:24 pm

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – The trial of notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman will begin on schedule next month.

Judge Brian Cogan on Tuesday denies a defense request to delay the trial in order to review a mountain of evidence.

Jury selection will begin next week as previously planned. Cogan said jurors will hear opening statements on Nov. 13.

El Chapo has pleaded not guilty to charged that his cartel laundered billions of dollars and oversaw multiple murders and kidnappings.

The federal trial will take place in Brooklyn and is expected to last for at least four months under tight security. It will feature the testimony of several cooperators about a number of killings.
