Watch Thieves Target Upscale Manhattan Gym Locker Rooms, NYPD Says

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A trio of thieves with a taste for expensive watches have been hitting pricey Manhattan gyms, police said.

There have been seven thefts at several gyms in Midtown and the Financial District since May.

On May 3, police said a 43-year-old man discovered his $10,200 Rolex watch and wedding band missing from his gym locker at the Parker New York Hotel. Just two days later, a 51-year-old man reported his $8,000 Rolex had been stolen from a locker at the same gym. 

On May 7, two men reported their Rolex and TAG Heuer watches had been taken from lockers at the Equinox gym on Wall Street.

Ten days later, a 50-year-old man put his $25,000 Patek Philippe watch in a locker at the Peninsula New York Hotel's gym and when he got back is was gone, police said. Just an hour later, a 32-year-old man reported his $2,700 Tag Heuer missing from the a locker at the same gym.

On June 4, two Rolex watches worth a total of $20,000 were taken from lockers at the New York Health and Racquet Club.

In the most recent incident, a $24,000 Audemars Piguet watch was stolen from a locker at the Equinox gym on 50th Street and Broadway.

All of the lockers were locked, police said.

"I hope they get caught and I hope they learn their lessons," one gym goer said.

Police have released surveillance video and photos of the three suspects.
