Trump Inspires New Fact-Checker Category: The ‘Bottomless Pinocchio’

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – A fact checker for The Washington Post says President Donald Trump has inspired a new classification.

It’s called the “Bottomless Pinocchio.”

The classification is reserved for a lie that has been repeated at least 20 times.

Fact-checker Glenn Kessler says the category has become necessary for politicians who are engaging in what he calls “campaigns of disinformation.”

Kessler says President Trump is the only politician to reach the threshold so far.

“The president keeps going long after the facts are clear, in what appears to be a deliberate effort to replace the truth with his own, far more favorable, version of it,” Kessler wrote in the Post.

Kessler says the commander in chief has earned 14 Bottomless Pinocchios for claims that the U.S. pays for most of NATO and that special counsel Robert Mueller’s staff is comprised of “angry Democrats.”
