NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has officially entered in a second bid for the presidency, but will it deter Mayor Bill de Blasio from running?

WCBS 880’s Rich Lamb asked the mayor, who was sworn in for a second term by Sanders, if the news has changed his perspective on a possible White House run.

De Blasio answered simply, “No.”

“I have tremendous respect for Bernie Sanders, I think Bernie did incredible service for this country in his campaign in 2016 and it fundamentally changed the debate,” the mayor added. “I think we're in a new situation here, there’s obviously a lot going on, it's a different dynamic and I think everyone should assess the current situation rent.”

The mayor touted the improvements that have come to New York City thanks to Sen. Sanders’ progressive agenda, including Pre-K for all and two-weeks paid vacation for all employees.

When asked if he’s still considering running for the President, the mayor said he is “not ruling it out.”
