TRENTON, N.J. (WCBS 880/AP) -- A New Jersey appeals court has ruled to allow a former teacher to continue her lawsuit against a Catholic school for firing her because she became pregnant while unmarried.

Victoria Cristello claims she was fired after revealed her pregnancy to the principal at St. Theresa School in Kenilworth in 2014.

A lower court previously dismissed her suit two years ago, saying Catholic schools are protected under state discrimination laws.

School representatives have yet to comment on the ruling.
