NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- An apparent love triangle turned deadly in Queens on Friday morning when police said a man fatally shot his ex-girlfriend and wounded her boyfriend before taking his own life.

The shooting happened at around 7 a.m. inside an apartment on 77th Street in East Elmhurst.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea said two 911 calls came in -- one from a neighbor and another from the woman who said she was shot by her boyfriend.

"A female, 31 years of age, who stated to the 911 operator, 'I've been shot by my boyfriend' and to send the police," She said. "That call then disconnects but it's left open so you hear some loud noises in the background."

Shea said when officers arrived at the scene, the door to the apartment was locked and they then heard up to 10 shots being fired.

According to police, the body of the woman and a 47-year-old man, believed to be the woman's ex-boyfriend, were found inside the home, both with bullet wounds to the head. A gun was found near his body, police said.

A 43-year-old man believed to be the woman's current boyfriend was wounded in the back and shoulder. He is a Yonkers police officer and was off-duty at the time of the shooting.

He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital with serious injuries and is expected to survive.

Shea said there was an incident involving the three on Monday when a car was keyed.
