Word Of The Year For 2018 Is ... Toxic

November 15, 2018 - 10:30 am

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The word of the year for 2018 is "toxic."

That's according to Oxford Dictionaries.

Why toxic you ask?

An Oxford announcer says it's because of all things toxic: Air, algae, chemicals, fumes, waste and even slime hitting the headlines. "Not to mentionion the continued public condemnation of the toxicity of plastics."

The "word of the year" is given to a word or expression deemed to reflect the "ethos, mood, or preoccupations" of the time.

This year is well, toxic.
