NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — The world’s longest feather boa was unveiled Thursday in Times Square in a celebration of gay pride.

In front of “Ripley’s Believe It or Not!” and with the help of drag queen Shangela, of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “A Star Is Born,” the 1.2 mile long feather boa was on display for the world to see for the first time Thursday morning.

“It was 1,919.5 meters – a little less than 1.2 miles,” said Spencer Cammarano, an official Guinness World Record adjudicator.

It took two weeks to sew, says Stacey Schuster with “Ripley’s Believe It or Not!” in Times Square.

“It was a thousand separate boas and we sewed and we finagled and we did it,” she explained.

The event was held in celebration of WorldPride and to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising.

Shangela, in a glittering gold gown, took a moment to address Pride Month and advocated for LGBT rights.

“Love is love is love and I’m just going to choose love, let everybody live their life as I live my best authentic self,” the drag queen said.

The event also marks the beginning of two special LGBTQ+ exhibits at Ripley’s and Madame Tussauds New York.
