World Series Dreams Come To An End For Staten Island Little League Team

August 24, 2018 - 8:10 am

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- It's the end of the road for Staten Island at the Little League World Series.

Mid Island lost to Georgia 7-3 after jumping out to a 3-0 lead by the end of the first inning.

But the "Peachtree City" team scored seven runs, and Mid Island couldnt catch up.

Although the team didn't take the title, Coach Joe Calabrese says his players can hold their heads high.

"I told them I am extremely proud of them," Calabrese said. "It was emotional ... I've been with them 3-4 years some of these kids. There were a lot of tears flowing but we just got to keep moving on now."

The last time Staten Island won the LLWS was more than 50 years ago.
